Secure a lifetime of beautiful and healthy smile for your kids.
Top-notch dental and oral care is now more accessible with the advent of the Child Dental Benefits Scheme.
What is the Child Dental Benefits Scheme?
Starting January 2014, a new dental and oral health benefit replaces the Medicare Teen Dental Plan. This year, the Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS) begins providing financial support for basic dental and oral health care services in order to help children achieve and maintain utmost oral wellness. With the CDBS, around 3.4 million kids can now have sufficient access to quality dental and oral care.
The CDBS you a total benefit entitlement cap of $1000 per child, over two consecutive calendar years. If your kid does not use the full $1000 cap in the first year, the balance can still be used in the second year, as long as your kid is still eligible. This is an incredible advantage that you should not miss. The first thing that you should do is to check the eligibility of your children.
Determining Eligibility For The CDBS
Your child’s eligibility will be determined each calendar year by the Department of Human Services. Children and teenagers are eligible for the CDBS if they’re aged 2 to 17 years for any one day of the calendar year, are eligible for Medicare, and are part of a family that receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or the child receives an Australian Government payment due to certain benefits.
No registration is needed for the CDBS. Eligible families and teenagers will receive a letter from the Australian Government. Generally, the letter will be sent to the person receiving the government payment. You can confirm your child’s eligibility and balance amount by accessing your Medicare online account at myGov or calling the Medicare general enquiries line on 132 011.
Dental Treatments Covered By The CDBS
The CDBS covers a wide range of dental services which are integral parts of Preventive Dentistry, namely:
- Regular Dental Checkups
- Dental X-Rays
- Professional Dental Cleanings
- Dental Fissure Sealants
- Tooth Fillings
- Root Canal Treatments
- Tooth Extractions
Notice that the CDBS does not cover cosmetic dental treatments. Also, the $1000 cap for the two-year period does not accumulate. Any balance cannot be used past the said timeframe. Lastly, this entitlement is not transferable and cannot be used by anyone other than the eligible child.
